To put a reliable system into use, we identify and gatherbasic metrics of the monitored system from the operating system.
We define a new log file structure and gather special metrics from such structured log files and process the gathered data.
We create dashboards on web browsers and mobile application with the data we gathered and when a monitored metric is out of the allowed range, we generate alerts by using e-mail or SMS.
The Purpose of the Project
In today’s our modern world, various services are provided via web servers to users, and the users access those services via two fundamental ways
which are web browsers and mobile applications. To verify and gain control over these services, monitoring and alerting systems play an important
role over the system. The sophisticated and wealthy companies have their own custom infrastructure over their own monitoring and alerting systems
used by millions of people. However, the smaller and newer companies (e.g. start ups) which constitute our target groups cannot afford to develop
such infrastructure. This project aims at developing a framework that offers basic monitoring and alerting methods to any application that runs on Unix servers.
Scope of the Project
The project includes development of these specifications:
The basic metrics of the monitored application or system metrics are going to be identified and gathered from the operating system.
Log file structure is going to be defined and special metrics from such structured log files (i.e. log servers) are going to be gathered.
The gathered data are going to be processed to make prepared for alerting and monitoring.
Dashboards and graphics are going to be generated to present to the users via web browser and mobile application.
If the value of metric or metrics is out of allowed range, alerts are going to be generated and notified to the users via e-mail, short message service, or push notifications.
