Orion

Orion has been founded in 2005 at Middle East Technical University as an engineering company.

The vision of the company is being one of the leading technology suppliers in Electrical Design Automation (EDA) and simulation arena by having their own know-how, engineering skills and eco-system.

Orion: The Name
Orion, is one of the most dominant constellations, visible in winter in the Northert Hemisphere. In the mythology, Orion is a hunter, hunting a wild bull (Taurus in the Zodiac), or a lion or a wild camel. The constellation depicts him as he has kneed in front of Taurus and ready to hit it with his mace, or club.

Orion, also is the name of a nebula within the borders of the constellation. The nebula is placed as the "shining" of Orion's sword. The Nebula is a very rare one that can be seen by naked eyes. Also, the Nebula is known to be a "star factory", a very productive place for cosmos. The selection of this name for our company, thus, is not accidental.Orion company aims to be one of the most productive companies among the other companies investing in EDA field.

Project: Bellatrix
The current project of Orion is a Digital Circuit Simulation and Design Tool, known as Bellatrix.

Bellatrix has been born as a Senior Project in the Computer Engineering department of Middle East Technical University. Being born in a university, it is specifically designed for students and academics as an easy-to-use and powerful tool for courses such as Logic Design.

Technologies making Bellatrix powerful:
  • JHDL: A very powerful and highly-extendible simulation engine for Java (www.jhdl.org)
  • Jython: The Java port of Python, the most-widely used scripting language (www.jython.org)

Technical Description
Project Code: DIGSIM
Project Supervisor: Onur SOYSAL
Project Description A graphical tool for editing digital electronics circuits and executing them. Tool should be easy editing of combinatorial and sequential digital circuits with layout aids. Designed circuits should be checked for validity and their operation should be tested. Tool should enable designers to design and edit a pallete of integrated circuits with actual pin layouts.

Bellatrix: The Name
Bellatrix, as the name, means "Warrioress". The name is given to one of the stars in the Orion Constellation. More precisely, Bellatrix is the star representing the Orion's left shoulder. (see Orion Constellation)

Throughout history, this star has been destined to the military success. Though, our work here is not fighting in the battlefield, but competing in the academic arena. Thus, we might think of a "protection" of this star, giving its name to our product.
